Hospital Expansion Joint Systems: Supplied and Installed by Heard Group

Heard Group Expansion Joint Systems proudly supplied and installed specialist expansion joint solutions at the Herston Quarter Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation (STAR) facility in Brisbane on behalf of Besix Watpac. This state-of-the-art healthcare precinct required durable, high-performance joint systems to support heavy foot traffic, carpark use, and long-term structural movement.

Medium Duty Floor Expansion Joints

In both indoor and outdoor public spaces, Heard Group installed Medium Duty Floor Expansion Joints designed to accommodate up to ±60 mm of movement. These systems are ideal for pedestrian areas, trolleys, and retail equipment traffic.

To enhance safety, joints were installed with our Continuous Angle Leg System and fitted with P5 grip-rated stainless steel cover plates, tested to AS 4586-2013 slip resistance standards. This combination delivers a safe, seamless, and long-lasting finish.

Waterproof Expansion Joint Seals

Beneath the floor systems, the Heard Group Expansion Joint Water Seal was installed. Manufactured from preformed cross-linked closed-cell foam, this waterproof seal prevents water and debris infiltration into lower levels and carparks. When used above fire seals, it also delivers combined fire and water protection.

CPSX™ Car Park Expansion Joints

Across six car park levels, Heard Group installed the CPSX Car Park Expansion Joint System. This robust system features a rubber strand topping that improves point-load resistance and protects the seal from punctures. The result is a smooth, safe surface for pedestrians and trolleys, even under heavy carpark use.
