Pacific Fair Shopping Centre – Expansion Joint Ramp Repair

PACIFIC FAIR SHOPPING CENTRE – EXPANSION JOINT RAMP REPAIR

Pacific Fair contacted Heard Group regarding issues they had with an aluminium rail type expansion joint that had been installed over an expansion joint gap at the top of one of their car park ramps.  Pacific Fair Management advised that the aluminium rail type expansion joint had been a safety hazard for pedestrians and motor vehicles and a noise hazard.

Heard Group Expansion Joint Installations were engaged to remove the aluminium rail type expansion joint system. It was replaced with CPSX Carpark Expansion Joint. We also repaired the damage to the concrete slab using PNSX Polymer Nosing that had been caused by the aluminium rail fixings breaking up the concrete slab underneath the existing failed expansion joint system.

CPSX Carpark Expansion Joint is a preformed cross-linked closed cell foam, specifically formulated to prevent water and debris from penetrating an expansion joint gap.  A layer of rubber strand topping on the seal’s exposed surface not only protects the seal from being punctured by sharp objects, but also stiffens the surface of the seal increasing point loading, allowing pedestrians and trolleys to traverse safely over the expansion joint gap.

CPSX Carpark Expansion Joint is a 100% complete water barrier with no potential noise or trip hazards.  It is unobtrusive to the structural car park concrete slab as it doesn’t require any metal/aluminium cover plate or mechanical fixings.  This means the structural integrity of the concrete slab is not compromised in any way by the installation of CPSX Carpark Expansion Joint.

Heard Group Expansion Joint Installations were also required to repair cracked and broken concrete in the cementitious topping slab.

PNSX Polymer Nosing is the ideal product for this type of rectification work, being that it is an elastomeric epoxy product which is predominately used to reinforce the nosing of a concrete structural slab such as bridge decks and car park podium slabs where heavy vehicles traverse the edge of the structural slab.  it is more efficient than concrete in its ability to expand and contract in thermal movement as it is an elastomeric epoxy, unlike cementitious products that de-bond in thermal movement due to their difference of co-efficiency between the two products.
